The
District Attorney of the 39th Judicial Circuit,
Kristi A. Valls, is the Chief Law Enforcement
Official in Limestone County
who represents the people of the State of Alabama
in prosecuting all felony and some misdemeanor criminal cases which occur
within
Limestone County.
She employs a staff of two Assistant District Attorneys to support her in
her duties which are specifically enumerated by Alabama Law.
The District Attorney and
her Assistants are prohibited by law from giving legal advice to the general
public or acting on any private legal matter. Legal consultation with the
District Attorney is limited to victims and witnesses who are involved with
criminal cases pending in
Limestone
County.
The District Attorney’s
office works closely with every component of law enforcement and the courts
to seek justice for crime victims in
Limestone
County.
For their own protection, criminal defendants are
strongly advised not to contact the District Attorney's Office, except
through counsel.
This
Website is designed to introduce you to the office and assist the citizens
of Limestone
County
in navigating
through the legal justice system if they are the
victim of crime or a
merchant in need of assistance with the collection of
worthless checks.
Office
hours are 8am – 4:30pm, Monday through Friday. The Office is closed each day
from
12:00pm - 1:00pm. The office is located on the 1st floor of the
Limestone County Courthouse at
200 West Washington St. Athens, Al 35611.
To
report a crime, you should contact your local law enforcement agency. If you
are in need of emergency law enforcement assistance in the
Limestone County
area, help can be obtained by dialing 911. Crimes should be reported
directly to local law enforcement agencies to ensure that they are properly
investigated. If warranted, that agency will then bring the case to the
District Attorney’s office for prosecution. More information on reporting a
